James has been working at Bannermans since July 2022. James has amassed a wealth of experience over the years, making him a go-to resource for construction-related legal issues in NSW. James has been instrumental in handling complex legal matters within the construction industry, providing valuable counsel to clients across various projects and disputes with an ability to navigate the intricacies of construction law and find effective solutions tailored to client specific needs.

Since joining Bannermans, James has worked on a large range of construction matters undertaking the following work:

Building and Construction

• Acting for owners corporations of various sizes, ranging from 3 – 350+ lots, against Builders and Developers in building defects claims;
• Advising owners corporations on building defects, insurance claims, legal remedies and relevant limitation periods;
• Appearing on behalf of owners corporations in building defect claims in the NSW Civil & Administrative Tribunal and Supreme Court of NSW in directions hearings, interlocutory applications and final hearings.
• Experienced in both the NSW Civil & Administrative Tribunal and Supreme Court of NSW disputes for all home building applications;
• Providing advice to owners corporations, Builders and Developers on the Design & Building Practitioners Act 2020;
• Acting for home owners in building defects claims;
• Assisting clients with contract negotiations, Fair Trading disputes and HBCF insurance claims;
• Assisting owners corporations obtain freezing orders against Developers dispersing assets.

• Bachelor of Law (University of Technology, Sydney) 2020;
• Bachelor of Business (Finance) (University of Technology, Sydney) 2020;
• Graduate Certificate in Professional Legal Practice (University of Technology, Sydney) 2020;
• Admitted as a Lawyer of the Supreme Court of NSW;
• Member of the Law Society of NSW.
