If an occupant claims they have an ‘assistance animal’, can an owners corporation ask to see evidence that the animal actually is a certified ‘assistance animal’?

Category: By-Laws, Pets, eBooks

Yes. This is a reasonable provision to include in a by-law that occupants who have an ‘assistance animal’ provide evidence prescribed by the legislation that the animal is an ‘assistance animal’.

Note that from 1 July 2025, a by-law requiring that an occupant supply evidence that an animal is an assistance animal will be satisfied by the supply of any one type of prescribed evidence. The forms of evidence which can be supplied in this regard will be expanded.
