How do you make a renovation by-law?

There are 7 steps for your renovation journey if you are planning to do renovation works in your apartment or unit that require owners corporation’s consent:

Step 1 – Draft the by-law

Step 2 – Submit it for inclusion in the next general meeting agenda

Step 3 – The agenda is issued

Step 4 – The general meeting occurs and the by-law is approved

Step 5 – Consolidation of by-laws

Step 6 – Registration of the by-law

Step 7 – Start your renovations

For drafting of by-law, There are 2 options that you may consider:

  1. prepare your own by-law using our DIY platform; or
  2. get in contact with us by email or phone if you would like one of our experienced lawyers at Bannermans to assist you in drafting the by-law.

If the by-law is not approved at the general meeting an application to order to make the by-law can be sought in the NSW Civil and Administration Tribunal.
